Being kind & polite means that your behavior shows respect for the rules that the majority follow, or in other words, act in a civilized way to avoid misunderstanding, friction & conflict.

These guidelines represent what a majority of people consider acceptable & what they consider unacceptable. For instance, many people talk at movies, or make boring conversations with their cellular-phones and so on . In fact their behavior is closer to that of animals than civilized individuals.
Remember, every little bit of kindness & good manners helps, namely, being polite & showing respect can give us an edge, & it is always a good idea to be kind & polite.
