  AGREETO DISAGREE

People often show agreement simply bysaying Right, Absolutely, or I agree. They often show politedisagreement by saying something like, Maybe, but… or I'm not sure that I agree.

However, there are a number of other ways to say I agree and even more ways to say (politely or forcefully) I disagree. The following expressionsare some of the most common:

  Saying

  I agree

The following expressions mean I share your opinion:

  Righton

  I'mwith you

  Ithink so, too

  Icouldn't agree more

  Yousaid it

  You('ve) got that right

  Youcan say that again

  Saying

  I disagree

These expressions are considered polite orneutral ways to show disagreement:

Ican't say that I agree: a polite way to say “Idon't agree”

  Idon't think so: means “I don't think the same way”:“I don't think that's right.”

Ihave a different take on it:  means “I see/understand it differently; I havea different viewpoint”

I'mof a different mind: means “My view point isdifferent”

I'mnot sure about that: a polite challenge tosomeone's statement; means “I may not agree”

Iquestion that: a polite challenge to someone'sstatement; means “I probably don't agree”

I wouldn'tbe so sure: a polite challenge to someone'sstatement; means “You might be wrong”

The following expressions show strongdisagreement, and are impolite or rude. They are sometimes used for teasing, but are mostly only used in arguments.

  You'rewrong

  You'recrazy or You're nuts

  You'reall wet

  You'renot thinking straight

Youdon't know what you're talking about

  That'sB.S. (slang)

  That'sa bunch of bull (slang)
