A dark horse on the tennis court
THE "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 ITF Pro Circuit event was held in the city from October 6-20. Tennis fans Gabe and his colleague, Yang, watched every minute of it.
Gabe: Yo, Yang, let's hit the court after work. I want to put a few aces past you.
Yang: Yeah, right! The day you hit a serve past me is the day I give up the sport.
Gabe: You never know. If I keep improving my game, I could one day become a dark horse player on the ITF Pro Circuit.
Yang: In your dreams! Are you comparing yourself to Zhou Yimiao, the dark horse of the ITF Pro Circuit event?
Gabe: Yeah, you've got me there. She gave a remarkable performance.
Yang: Right. At the beginning of the Beijing tournament, she was an unranked ITF player. Nonetheless, she won the tournament.
Gabe: And so that's why she's worthy of the name "dark horse" – just like me.
Yang: Well, I'm sorry to take the wind out of your sails, but I suggest you quit your wishful thinking. Zhou Yimiao had spent years of training before stepping into the spotlight. You've been playing tennis for 10 months.
Gabe: Well, you know what they say – a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
